Create memories & Good to know
Unforgettable Africa – your dream safari in Tanzania
Tanzania is not a destination – it’s an experience that will change you forever. The vastness
of the Serengeti, the fog at the Ngorongoro Crater, a sunset in Zanzibar: Anyone who has
been there once carries Africa in their hearts. But not every safari is the same. The difference
isn’t just in the location – it’s in the way you travel.
With CREATE MEMORIES – the tailor-made safari concept from Tangier Safaris – you can
design your dream trip to Tanzania and Zanzibar according to your wishes. Encounter the
impressive wildlife, experience the culture of the Maasai or the Hadzabe, one of the last
Bushman communities in the world. And then relax in the luxurious world of Zanzibar with its
dream beaches.
One thing always remains the same: the African wilderness belongs to everyone – no matter
which package you choose. What makes the difference is your personal frame.

Safari in Tanzania – What you
really need to know
The honest practical guide from Tangier Safaris – your team of experts on site in
Arusha
Visa, vaccinations, luggage, money, drones, security – there are a few things to
clarify before you leave for Tanzania. This guide summarizes what is really
important – without marketing language, but from daily practical experience on
site.
A well-prepared traveler enjoys his safari in a more relaxed way. Here’s
everything you need.
First of all: Why we only offer private safaris
A question we are often asked: “Do you also have group safaris? That might be cheaper.” And
yes – it would be cheaper at first glance. But we made a conscious decision not to go down
this path.
Tangier Safaris only offers private safaris – for individual travellers, couples, families and
groups of friends. Your vehicle belongs only to you. Your guide is yours alone. Your safari is
just yours.
- Flexible departure times and stops – at your own pace
- No compromises with strangers in the vehicle
- Wildlife observation without time pressure – for as long as you like
- Spontaneous route changes – when our guide discovers fresh tracks
⚠️ Group safaris will only take place if enough participants have booked. If the
minimum number of participants is not reached, the tour is cancelled or postponed – sometimes a few weeks before the start of the trip. Flights are then already
booked, vacation days taken, advance services paid. This risk does not exist on a
private safari from Tangier Safaris.
Entry and visa – how to do it right
Almost all nationals need a visa to enter Tanzania. There are two options – both cost $50 per
person (U.S. residents: $100).
Option 1 – E-Visa (Recommended): Online at visa.immigration.go.tz | Processing time
approx. 10 working days
Lead time: Apply at least 3-4 weeks before travel
Option 2 – Visa on Arrival: Kilimanjaro Airport (JRO), Zanzibar Airport (ZNZ) and Dar es
Salaam (DAR) | Waiting time up to 60 min.
Tangier Safaris Expert Tip: The e-visa is clearly recommended: You avoid
queues and have the visa secured before you travel. Apply for it at least 4 weeks
in advance –
Zanzibar: Compulsory insurance since October 2024
Mandatory: Zanzibar Insurance Corporation (ZIC) travel insurance – no exceptions
Cost: $44 per person
Conclusion: Exclusively online at: visitzanzibar.go.tz
Proof: Show QR code upon entry (smartphone or printout)
️Own international health insurance is NOT recognized. Anyone entering the
country without ZIC insurance will be turned away – without exception.
Money, currency and tips
Notes: Only new, flawless USD notes (from 2009) – old ones are often rejected
ATMs: Reliable in Arusha, Moshi, Zanzibar – no access in national parks
Credit cards: Accepted in luxury lodges and larger restaurants
Guide: $15-20 per person per day
Lodge staff: $5-10 per person per day
Kilimanjaro Mountain Team: $250-300 total (guide, porter, cook)
Tangier Safaris Expert Tip: Prepare your tip in small USD bills before you
travel. There are no substitution options in the national park. Tangier Safaris informs
you in advance about all expected amounts – transparently and without hidden costs.
Health and vaccinations
Malaria prophylaxis: recommended – consult a doctor at least 4-6 weeks in advance
Yellow fever vaccination: Mandatory when entering from endemic countries – carry proof
of vaccination
Hepatitis A & B: Standard travel vaccination – ideally 4+ weeks before departure
Drinking water: Only sealed bottled water – no tap water
Many travel insurance policies do not cover Kilimanjaro. Check the policy
explicitly for mountain rescue up to 6,000 m. A special mountain rescue insurance
usually costs 100-200 EUR – worth every penny.

Distances and travel times
The actual travel times are significantly higher than the number of kilometres. On gravel roads
in national parks, an average speed of 25–40 km/h is realistic.

Arusha → Tarangire: 120 km | approx. 2 hours | Asphalt to the National Park
Arusha → Lake Manyara: 120 km | approx. 2 hours | Asphalt to the National Park
Karatu → Ngorongoro Crater: 65 km | approx. 1.5 hours | mostly gravel
